Chapter 3
-The next morning-
I woke up late in the morning. I stood up the whole night trying to figure out how to turn the translators on. It took me almost an hour trying to tell the driver last night how to get to the hotel. I'm just glad he understood "left", "right", "stop". If he didn't I would have never arrived at the hotel. It took me three hours to figure out how to turn those translators on, but I figured it out. Who would've thought that they were both voice activated? You just have to say what the pendents are. The two kanji characters I mentioned before, those were the key. It was a good thing that the lady in the front desk was willing to read the kanji peices. They were "Koi" (Love) and "Kirei" (Beautiful). Ironic that the old man would choose such peices.
Anyways, after I put the two translators on, I met with another person who was going to drive me to KAT-TUN's house. I met her outside of the hotel and she was a very serious looking woman. She wore a black suit and had a suitcase in her right hand. There was a black limo behind her. The windows were tinted, I guess that's a precaution.
"Ohayo gozaimasu [Good morning]," she greeted.
"Ohayo [Morning]," I replied.
"Kanjiro Yuki desu [I'm Kanjiro Yuki]," she told me with a smile.
"Hajimemashite. Hanashimi Erika desu [Nice to meet you. I'm Hanashimi Erika]." I stook my hand out and she gave me a confused look. "You shake it." I told her.
"Ah sou [I see]," she grabbed my hand and shook it quite hard. "Like this?"
"H-hai. Mou ii[Y-yeah. Enough.]." I told her in pain.
"Gomen [Sorry]. Is that an American tradition?" she asked.
"Hai [Yes]. When you meet someone new, you usually shake their hands." I told her.
"Ah sou [I see]. Here we bow." She bowed.
"Sou dayo [That's right]." I bowed back at her.
"Ja...ikimashou [Well...shall we go]?" she asked and took my luggages away from me. "Kore [Here]," she handed it over to a big man in a suit. He was wearing glasses, and was bald. "Hanashimi-san ikou [Ms. Hanashimi let's go]."
"Hai [Right]." I walked over to the car and a man opened the door for me. "Arigatou [Thank you]." I got in and Yuki was inside already. The man closed the door and it suddenly felt clustered.
"Kanarou should have already given you the translators, right?" she asked me.
"Kanarou-san? You mean the ojii-san who picked me up yesterday?"
"Hai [Yes]. Did he give you them?"
"Hai [Yes]." I showed her the necklace and the earrings.
"Good. Now I will give you a short summary of how your stay with KAT-TUN is going to work." She opened her suitcase and took a manila folder out. "KAT-TUN is still busy for this year, so they won't really have a lot of free time. Of course, this isn't their fault."
"Wakata [I understand]."
"KAT-TUN has an upcoming concert that you are invited to. You are also going to be the guest on their next Cartoon KAT-TUN show. You watch it, right?"
"Hai [Yeah]."
"Good. Then you don't need to be briefed on it." She opened the manila folder and placed two sheets of paper on my lap. "That's the 100 question survey. Please complete it before the next show."
I nodded.
"Arigatou [Thank you]." She placed the manila folder back inside and took a blue folder out this time. "As for your welcoming party-"
"Ah. You know about the welcoming party?" I cut her off. Honestly, she was going too fast for me, so I had to stop her somehow.
"Mouchiron [Of course]. I am their manager."
"M-manager?" I asked surprised.
"Hai. Tonikaku...[Yes. Anyways..."
Her voice drifted away for a moment as I took some time to think about what she just said. I always thought that that KAT-TUN's manager was a guy.
"Hanashimi-san? Are you listening?" Yuki asked. I guess my uncaring face was too obvious.
"Ah hai. Gomen. [Ah yeah. Sorry]"
"The house you will be living in is not their real house. It's like a mansion. There are seven rooms. Six of them are for each member. The seventh one is for you. I don't know where you'll be sleeping, that'll depend on the members. Ueda-san oftenly goes to the gym on his free days, so I'm not sure you'll see a lot of him. Nakamaru-san and Tanaka-san like to go out to bars often together. Taguchi-san goes to the gym with Ueda-san, but he practices his jumps and stuff. Akanishi-san and Kamenashi-san like to go to the movies, seperately."
"Seperately? Nande [Why]?"
"Shiranai [You don't know]?"
I shook my head.
"Since Akanishi-san left to America, their relationship hasn't been the same."
"The same? What was it like before?" I asked.
"They were always laughing together, always smiling too. They always went out to bars together and to the movies. But ever since Akanishi-san left for America, it was never the same. Now they avoid each other, and they don't even look at each other in the eyes anymore."
"Did something happened in America?"
"Iie [No]. I think something happened here in Japan before Akanishi-san left. Maybe they got into a fight." Her interest on the topic faded away, but mine's didn't.
A fight? Maybe they argued over something. I thought as Yuki kept talking.
"We're here," she told me. I woke up from my world and looked outside. There stood a big house with a bunch of flowers and bushes surrounding it.
"Kirei~ [Beautiful]." I said amazed.
"Deshou? Ja ikimashou [Right? Then let's go]?"
Two men got out of the car and opened the doors for us. "Dozo [Go ahead]," the one who opened my door said.
"Arigatou [Thank you]," I slightly bowed my head and walked out of the car. I had to walk around the car to meet Yuki on the other side. The house looked bigger when I stood right in front of it.
"The boys should be inside getting ready to meet you," Yuki told me with a smile.
"Hai [Yes]," I replied. I sill dazed by the size and appearance of the house, so I really didn't listen to what she was saying.
I heard her footsteps go ahead of me, but I stayed where I was. "Hanashimi-san, ikou [let's gp]," Yuki called.
I shook my head and responded, "Hai [Yes]." I caught up to her, and we walked to the front door together.
She knocked on the door four times, like it was a code. "Oi~ [Hey]" she called to the inside.
I heard running footsteps from inside coming to the door. Yuki straightened her back, and forced me to do the same. The door suddenly opened to reveal Koki and Maru smiling. "Yo!" Koki greeted.
I didn't want to be improper, so I didn't say "Yo". But at the same time it'd be weird if I had said "Domo". So, I just stood there in complete silence. "Tanaka-san, please act proper," Yuki asked annoyed by his behaivor.
"Hai~ [Yes]" Koki answered like a kid. "Dozo [Go ahead]." He stepped to the side to make a pathway for both Yuki and I.
"Where is everyone else?" Yuki asked.
"Kame is upstairs. Ueda went to the gym. Junno is up in his room, I think. And Jin is...I don't know where. Koki and I were just playing video games," Maru answered more mature than Koki.
Yuki sighed a disappointed sigh. "I told you guys to stay here until your guest arrived. Why did Ueda-san go to the gym?"
"Saa na [I don't know]. He said something about you guys never coming. I mean, you were late by like 30 minutes. I guess he got tired of waiting." Maru shrugged and walked to the living room where the games were.
Koki closed the door and stuck his hand out in front of me. "Yoroshiku [Give me your advice]," he said smiling.
I bowed instead. "Yoroshiku [Give me your advice]," I mummbled.
Koki looked at his hand confused. I guess he was surprised I didn't shake it. "Tch, I thought that was how you greeted Americans. Jin lied to me," he said under his breath. He said it so low, I could barely understand him.
"Tonikaku [Anyways]," Yuki broke in, "call Kamenashi-san and the others here. I want you guys to properly introduce yourselves to her."
"Doesn't she already know who we are?" someone said from the staircase. I turned my head towards the voice and saw it was Kame. He looked at me, so I bowed out of politeness. "It'd be a waste of time for us to introduce ourselves."
"Kamenashi-san," Yuki called.
"It's the truth," he said annoyed.
"Maa, maa [Well, well]," Koki jumped in, "let's just call the others and get it over with, ne [right]?" He walked up to Kame and patted him on the back.
Kame looked at me with an irritated face. He was intimidating, so I tried to look away. "Whatever," he answered.
"Yosh [Alright]! Maru, call up Ueda and Jin. I'll go get Junno upstairs...if he's there."
"Wakata [I understand]," Maru replied. He paused his game and ran to the house phone and started to dial.
Kame walked pass me to grab his jacket. On his way back, he looked at me. "Yoroshiku [Give me your advice]," I said and bowed.
"Yoroshiku [Give me your advice]," he replied without bowing. He sounded quite irritated.
"Gomen [Sorry]. He's been like this since Akanishi-san came back from the States," Yuki informed me, sort of embarrassed.
There it is again. Something must've happened between them. I gotta find out what, so they can be friends again. I thought to myself.
"Ueda is on his way back," Maru shouted to Koki.
"Jin wa [What about Jin]?" Koki asked.
"Don't know. He isn't answering his cell phone."
"Typical," Kame mummbled to himself, but I was able to hear it.
"Nee, Taguchi wa [Hey, what about Taguchi]?" Maru asked.
"Right here!" Junno shouted from the stairs. His loud voice was so different from the others. I could distingush his voice anywhere.
"We have four of them. We just need Ueda," Yuki stated impatiently.
The door behind was started to rattle, so we all turned around. "I'm here~" Ueda shouted as he walked in all sweaty and tired.
"Ueda-san, I told you not to leave," Yuki reminded him.
"Hai, hai. Sumimasen, Yuki-san [Right, right. Sorry]." He walked in front of us and bowed in front of me. "Gomen [Sorry]."
"Ah, iie. Betsuni [Ah, it's okay. It's northing]," I said embarrassed that he was bowing to me.
He stood straight up, "Hontou ni gomen [I'm really sorry]." He looked at Yuki. "You guys were taking so long though. What happened?"
"Traffic was crazy. Some paparazzi noticed the limo and thought you were with us," she lied. "They were crazy, ne Hanashimi-san?"
I didn't want to get her in trouble so I played along. "Hai [Yeah]."
Someone rang the doorbell four times before Koki answered it. It was Jin. "Yo," he greeted as he walked in.
"Akanishi-san, where were you?" Yuki asked worried.
"I was just at the movies." He yawned and stretched his arms.
"Your cell phone?"
"I was at the movies. You're supposed to turn them off," he told her abruptly.
"How about after the movies?"
"I forgot." He shrugged and took his shoes off. He walked in front of, well more like next to Junno.
Yuki sighed. "At least we have everyone here. Anyways, get in formation," she commanded. The group of boys immediatly went into KAT-TUN formation. It was Kame, Jin, Junno, Koki, Ueda, then Maru. They all put their arms to their sides and stood up straight. "Alright, introduce yourselves."
"Hai [Yes]!" they shouted in unison.
"Kamenashi Kazuya desu [I'm Kamenashi Kazuya]." Kame bowed. "Yoroshiku [Give me your advice]."
"Akanishi Jin desu [I'm Akanishi Jin]." Jin bowed. "Hajimemashite [Nice to meet you]."
"Taguchi Junnosuke desu [I'm Taguchi Junnosuke]." He bowed and instead of saying anything, he just smiled.
"Tanaka Koki desu [I'm Tanaka Koki]." He didn't bow. He took another chance and stuck his hand out in front of me. I didn't want him to feel bad, so I shook his hand this time. He looked really happy I did such a thing.
"Ueda Tatsuya desu [I'm Ueda Tatsuya]." He bowed. "Yoroshiku [Give me your advice]."
"Nakamaru Yuichi desu [I'm Nakamaru Yuichi]." He bowed.
"Okay, good job," Yuki complimented. "Hanashimi-san, go ahead."
"Hai [Right]," I answered. "Hanashimi Erika desu. Yoroshiku onegaishimasu [I'm Hanashimi Erika. Please give me your advice]." I bowed for a pretty long time before Koki told me I could raise my head. I felt embarrassed that I bowed too long.
"I don't want to sound stupid, but is Erika your first or surname?" Ueda asked.
"First," I answered.
"Ah sou [I see]. So we'll call you Hanashimi-san?"
"Iie, daijoubu [No, it's alright]. I don't mind being called Erika. It's what I'm called in America," I told them.
"Hontou?! Sugoi. Hontou desu ka Jin [Really?! That's amazing. Is it true, Jin]?" Maru asked.
"Mhm. They call you by your first name there. Unless you're a customer or teacher," he confirmed.
"Sou ka [I see]. That's pretty cool," Maru said amazed.
"If it's okay, I can call you guys by your surname and -san," I suggested.
"Sure. That'll be okay," Koki told me.
"I'll let you guys get acquainted. I need to go anyways," Yuki said. "Hey, don't forget. You guys have a rehearsal for your next concert today at 6. Hanashimi-san, if you want you can tag along."
"Sure. Arigatou gozaimasu [Thank you very much]." I bowed before she left.
"Another rehearsal? This is the fifth one this week," Junno complained.
"C'mon guys, it's all for our fans. Let's take it," Koki said, trying to cheer them up.
"Whatever. How long do we have until we have to leave?" Kame asked.
"Four more hours," Ueda answered.
"Okay, what do you guys want to do?" Kame asked. I just noticed something. He never looks at Jin when he talks to anyone. Jin doesn't do the same either. Was the fight they got into that huge? He suddenly stared at me. "What do you want to do, Erika-chan?"
"Eh?" I looked at him confused. "You want me to choose?"
"Well sure, I mean you are the guest of honor for the day," Koki started to count with his fingers, "or year."
"Etto... [Um...]" I looked at Jin, who was just staring off to space and looked mad that he was being left out of the conversation. "Akanishi-san," I called. He looked at me, and Kame looked away. "What do you want to do?"
He looked at me with cold eyes and answered, "You guys want to go to the mall?"
Koki looked at Maru with a questioned face. Then Maru looked at Junno with the same look. Junno looked at Ueda, and Ueda looked at Kame...or at least tried. Finally, I answered, "Sure!" Man, the atmosphere was extremely weird.
Kame glanced at Jin with a pissed face. He turned to Koki and said, "I'll go too."
I sighed in relief. That was so weird.
